Presentations and Mentoring

Members of the Department regularly conduct one-day presentations for students on a variety of topics and are available to speak upon request. Some of the topics they cover include:

  • Bullying
  • Child safety/child identification programs
  • Choices and consequences
  • Employment interview preparation
  • Family fun nights
  • Gang awareness
  • Internet safety
  • Parental workshops that focus on awareness, prevention tips and helpful resources
  • Prescription drug abuse among teens
  • Understanding "snitching" and police/youth relations
  • Youth Assistance Program (trips to Sing Sing Correctional Facility)
  • Youth forums (youth law)

The Department also provides mentoring programs for young adults.       

  • Citywide youth forums that address youth violence and police/youth relations
  • Health and wellness workshops (10-week program)
  • Cops and teens click together computer classes
