We can't just work with people who have experienced abuse to end gender-based violence, we must also work with people who cause harm. Sometimes, people who cause harm experienced abuse themselves. Providing them an opportunity to reflect on their experiences of abuse, while also holding them accountable for the harm they have caused, can help them create healthier relationships.
New York City has made one of the largest investments in the U.S. in free, community-based, voluntary programs for people who have caused harm in their relationships. These programs exist because survivors have asked for them. They give people more options for addressing harmful behaviors outside law enforcement systems.
For youth who want to stop causing harm in all types of relationships
