ApprenticeNYC: Advanced Manufacturing
ApprenticeNYC: Advanced Manufacturing helps New Yorkers develop in-demand skills in a high-growth occupation. The program consists of three phases of full-time training:
- Pre-Apprenticeship: This initial four-week phase combines independent study with practical sessions, culminating in the chance to earn a Manufacturing Certification (CMfgA).
- Classroom Training: Over the next 12 weeks, participants receive compensation while engaging in hands-on, project-based learning in the classroom.
- On-the-Job Training: The final 40 weeks are spent gaining hands-on experience at a partner employer's facility, complemented by related technical instruction for ongoing professional growth and skill development.
No Experience Necessary
You are a good fit for the program if you are:
- 18+ years old
- New York City resident
- Registered for Federal Selective Service (if applicable)
- Earning $50,000 or less annually
- Committed to a long-term career in the Advanced Manufacturing industry
- Comfortable with math and computers
- Interested in making things and working with your hands
- Able to stand for long periods of time
A Real Career Path in Advanced Manufacturing
You will be trained for and placed in roles such as CNC Machinist, Welder, and Industrial Mechanic. You will study:
- Hand tools and power tools
- Blueprint reading and blueprint drawing
- Introduction to woodworking
- Principles of sustainability
- Welding
- 3D printing
- Metal fabrication
- Laser cutting
- CNC machines
- Other advanced manufacturing topics
You will continue your training and education through your employment.
Earn While You Learn
If you are chosen for the apprenticeship, you will be paid a minimum of $18 per hour for full-time work by your employer. As you acquire more skills, you can expect wage increases. By the end of the one-year apprenticeship, your hourly pay will be at least $21.
