For people of all ages, the arts often inspire deep and meaningful connections to civic issues. The Mayor's Fund—in partnership with the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs, the Mayor's Office of Media and Entertainment, and DemocracyNYC—is launching the Civics and Arts Fund to sponsor opportunities for youth to connect with art that advances the City's civic culture.
Now through August 24, 2019, the Arts and Civics Fund will send groups of young people to a showing of the Broadway play "What the Constitution Means to Me." The autobiographical piece from creator Schreck takes a deep dive into our country's legal history and explores the Constitution's historical treatment of gender. For young attendees, the show is a unique participatory learning experience that calls on them to engage with their peers, their community, and our democracy at large.
