We work with the NYC Food and Beverage Industry Partnership, the city's foodservice/hospitality industry partnership, to identify programs and resources that provide good foodservice job and career opportunities to New Yorkers.
First Course NYC is a program for eligible New Yorkers who are passionate about starting a foodservice career in a demanding NYC restaurant kitchen, and are willing and able to commit to full-time training and employment.
This is not a cooking class! Participants receive eight weeks of intensive culinary training in preparation to be hired as a paid, full-time employee (apprentice) in a demanding restaurant kitchen where you will work, earn, and continue to learn. You will receive ongoing support and guidance from the program team and restaurant supervisors to help you overcome any challenges to success.
Apprentices who prove to their employer during initial weeks of restaurant work that they are dedicated, hard-working, and dependable will be retained as a permanent employee in an entry-level cook position best suited to their skill level. Success is up to you!
