Hamilton Heights Containerization

Hamilton Heights was the first neighborhood in NYC to take part in a new program to get trash bags off the street and into bins.

On June 1, 2025, the program will fully transition to become part of the M9 Containerization Pilot.

Timeline

As of August 14, 2023, trash collection on the 12 blocks in the program area increased to six days a week – Monday through Saturday.

As of September 11, 2023, shared bins were installed in the area (except 142nd street).

  • Shared bins (plastic with lids and wheels) are for residential trash only, not recycling.
  • Bins are monitored and cleaned on a regular basis.

Beginning April 2025, the shared bins will be REMOVED and installation of Empire Bins will begin. Empire Bins can be used immediately after installation.

For those properties that did not opt-in to Empire Bins, individual bins will be required for trash starting June 1, 2025.

NOTE: Once the containers are removed, trash collection will return to the regular 3 day a week service: Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. There is no change to your recycling and Curbside Composting service. Recycling and compost will continue to be collected on Fridays.

Large Items

Have something bulky that won't fit in the bin? That's okay! Leave it in front of your building and we will pick it up from there.
