Long Island City Rezoning:
Executive Summary - updated October 2, 2001

Development Plan for Queens Plaza Municipal Garage
Consistent with the City's efforts to facilitate development in Long Island City, the Economic Development Corporation (EDC) issued a Request for Proposals for development of the Queens Plaza Municipal Garage in October 2000. The garage is located at the intersection of Queens Plaza South and Jackson Avenue. Its public parking capacity is 1,150 spaces and it also includes 180,000 square feet of commercial space. Ground floor retail and office uses occupy a portion of the Queens Plaza South frontage and all of the Jackson Avenue frontage. Under the department's rezoning proposal, an approximately 1.5 million square foot building could be constructed on the site. Developers of the site will be required to retain the public parking on site.
