Project
Description
DEP is proposing to remove and dispose of approximately 5,000 cubic
yards of accumulated sediments from the Shandaken Tunnel Intake Channel
within the Schoharie Reservoir in the town of Gilboa, New York. The project
was developed pursuant to the USEPA’s 2002 Filtration Avoidance
Determination (FAD) and the 1997 New York City Watershed Memorandum of
Agreement (MOA). The maintenance dredging would restore proper operations
of the Shandaken Tunnel Intake Channel and Chamber. It is anticipated
that the proposed dredging project would be completed within a three
to six week period between October 15 and December 31, 2006.
The Shandaken Tunnel Intake Channel is located on the western shore of the Schoharie Reservoir in the town of Gilboa, New York near the convergence of Greene, Delaware, and Schoharie Counties just north of Prattsville, New York. The dredged material would be transported in trucks from the work site and disposed on City-owned land just north of the Gilboa Dam.
