Urban Search and Rescue Team Rings Opening Bell at New York Stock Exchange

Members of the Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) team, New York Task Force 1, rang the opening bell at the New York Stock Exchange on Jan. 26.

“We’re honored to represent the city,” said Chief Joe Downey, who served as task force leader during their recent trip to Haiti.

The group was applauded enthusiastically as they walked across the trading room floor and rang the bell from the balcony of the Exchange.

Rick Wohlmacher, Managing Director of the Global Client Group at the New York Stock Exchange, said usually when he greets visitors they discuss “a tough day at the office, but I think of what a ‘tough day’ means to you and it’s incredible. It’s a privilege to host you here.”
