July 17, 2008 - The Mayor’s Office of Film, Theatre and Broadcasting, working with the Department of Small Business Services, yesterday released a Request for Proposals (RFP) for the program design and administration services of a pilot production and training program. read more
July 14, 2008 - Commissioner Katherine Oliver of the Mayor’s Office of Film, Theatre and Broadcasting (MOFTB) today announced the adoption of rules governing the issuance of permits in connection with filming activity in New York City. The rules, which were published today in the City Record and will go into effect thirty days after publication on August 13, will require a permit if filmmakers use vehicles or equipment, or, in certain situations, assert exclusive use of City property. Permits will not be required for casual photographers, tourists, credentialed members of the media, or other members of the public who do not use vehicles or equipment or assert exclusive use of City property. The adopted rules outline the practices of the MOFTB, codifying the procedures that have existed since the office was established in 1966. read more
July 14, 2008 - The Living Room for Artists Inc / Summer Play Festival (SPF) and The Mayor’s Office of Film, Theatre, and Broadcasting (MOFTB) will present its second panel of 2008 – a look at playwrights who have written for both the stage and screen - on Thursday, July 24. Titled “Stage & Screen: A Playwrights’ Discussion About Writing for Film and Television”, the panel is designed to look at the challenges and dynamics that playwrights face when writing for film and television. The panel will be moderated by Katherine Oliver, Commissioner of the Mayor's Office of Film, Theatre and Broadcasting. On Tuesday, May 1st, Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg unveiled a public awareness campaign featuring a series of print and broadcast advertisements designed to combat the creation, distribution, and sale of illegally recorded films in New York City. Featuring PSAs to run on TV and in movie theaters and several bus shelters advertisements, the campaign sends the message that movie piracy harms our economy, kills jobs and impacts all New Yorkers. The Mayor also signed legislation that strengthens the penalty for illegally videotaping a film from a violation to a misdemeanor with increased jail time.
