Tune in TV Watchers - The 2007 New York Television Festival Opens September 5th!

Television industry insiders get together at a 2006 New York Television Festival reception.

September 1, 2007 - Now in its third year, the New York Television Festival (NYTVF) continues to provide a unique platform for the television community to showcase their work. Running from September 5-9 in midtown Manhattan, NYTVF brings together fans, production teams and network representatives to celebrate the successes of television today and to examine trends for the future.

Since its inception in 2005, NYTVF continues to grow and develop. The Independent Pilot Competition, established to connect independent television producers from around the world with industry executives, will feature twenty eight original television pilots selected from a record number of submissions. In addition to panels and special events, NYTVF is also presenting its 2nd annual “Premiere Week,” a series of red-carpet “sneak peeks” of highly anticipated new fall shows. The “Made in NY” television pilot “New Amsterdam” will be premiering as part of the series on Thursday, September 6 at 8pm at the New World Stages on 50th Street. Following the screening, a Q & A with the pilot’s cast and crew will be moderated by Mayor’s Office of Film Commissioner Katherine Oliver.

“New York has an incredible legacy of innovation in television,” said NYTVF founder Terence Gray. “We consider NYC the birthplace of modern TV, and our claim is supported by NY's storied tradition of genre-defining programming. The NYTVF Premiere Week screening series has introduced NY crowds to great "Made in NY" productions at the network level, and we hope to provide a platform for outstanding NY-based television in the future.”

In April 2006, the Festival announced the first sale of a program that had premiered in the independent pilot competition to a major cable network. The comedy pilot “Criss-Cross,” which shot in a Lower East Side bar, was purchased by A&E Television Networks and put into development under the working title “I Never Said That,” which also shot in NYC. This announcement was followed in June by the sale of a second show, the TV Land Audience Award-winning pilot “Off the Hook,” to the OLN network, starring four life-long friends from Brooklyn.
