November 1, 2007 - Recently, the Mayor’s Office of Film, Theatre and Broadcasting commissioned a survey from Audience Research & Analysis in an effort to determine local residents’ reactions and interactions with film and television productions in their neighborhoods. The survey focused on two neighborhoods in particular with a significant history of film production on its streets: Greenpoint, Brooklyn and the West Village in Manhattan.
One-quarter of the respondents had seen film production take
place within the past week while a total of one-half had witnessed filming in
the past two weeks. Fifty-six percent of residents experienced filming on their
block, including three percent in their home, building, business or workplace.
The film industry employs more than 100,000 New Yorkers, evidenced from the
survey by the forty percent of respondents who said “they, a family member, or
friend worked in the Film or TV industry.”
