The Mayor’s Office of Film, Theatre & Broadcasting applauds The Departed for winning four Oscars at Sunday night’s 79th Annual Academy Awards. As a “Made in NY” film, The Departed won an Academy Award for Best Picture, Writing for an Adapted Screenplay and Film Editing. Meanwhile, New York City’s own Martin Scorsese won the Oscar for Best Director. This was Scorsese’s first Oscar, but eighth Academy Award nomination.

The panel provided advice for New Yorkers looking to break into the entertainment production industry and stressed the need for greater diversity in the field.

The Theatre Museum's Times Square Theatres Exhibition Now Playing

The Theatre Museum is currently running Times Square Theatres: A New Century/A New Style, an exhibition at the Municipal Arts Society, now through March 7, 2007. The Municipal Arts Society is located at 457 Madison Avenue at 51st St in New York City. The exhibition explores the various styles of Broadway theatres of the 20th century, including the Art Nouveau style at the turn of the century and the popular Renaissance style of the 1930s. It continues to examine the new Broadway after the Depression and Word War II and proceeds to the future of Times Square Theatres.

Mosaic Colony to Run Seventh Film Production Program

Mosaic Colony, a non-profit organization dedicated to exploring Judaism through the Arts, has announced its seventh Film Production Program for teens and is currently accepting applications. The program, running from July 2nd to the 27th, is a month-long intensive session held at the Harvestworks Digital Media Arts Center in Soho.
