Stephanie Argamaso, Mayor's Office of Film, Theatre and Broadcasting November 2, 2009 - Each year, as part of Customer Service Week, the Mayor’s Excellence in Customer Service Award is given to members of various City agencies who have gone above and beyond the call of customer service. Stephanie Argamaso, a permit coordinator, is this year’s recipient from MOFTB. “It was exciting,” said Argamaso to receive the award. “It’s nice to be recognized by an entity outside your agency.” Argamaso said that among her tips to providing the best customer service possible are to always stay professional and to listen carefully and try to figure out exactly what the customer is asking. “Our office motto is that we’ll always try to find a way to say yes,” said Argamaso. Part of her job is to figure out how to balance what the production is requesting with what will cause as little inconvenience to the community as possible. Argamaso has been with the agency for nearly five years and got her start here as an intern. She never expected to come back after her internship; she was working in film festivals when she got the offer to join MOFTB. “It’s ideal to work here where you can help make movie magic happen in an indirect way,” she said. Her favorite part of the job comes when working on some of the most complicated requests made by films and television shows. “You work with the people in our office and the customer, and everything works out,” she said. She counts The Departed and Spider-Man 3 as some of the most memorable productions she’s worked on. She’s also proud of smaller productions like Bella and The Namesake. “It’s great to work on something that’s well received,” she said. She also feels a sense of pride when she sees New York City depicted on screen. Argamaso noted how, whether she’s signing permits for a student film that’s just one guy and a camera or for a production sequence that involves thousands of people being evacuated off of a pier, “I treat everyone the same.” “I don’t really consider myself the winner of this award,” said Argamaso, “just the keeper of the plaque until the next year because the whole office deserves the award.”  More Industry Stars | |
