World AIDS Day

December 1st, 2013 marks World AIDS Day, a global event commemorating the remarkable progress being made against a worldwide epidemic in the more than 30 years since the disease was first recognized. In recognition of World AIDS Day, HHC reminds New Yorkers about the importance of knowing your HIV status. HHC hospitals and health centers offer confidential and rapid HIV tests at little or no cost. HIV counselors are readily available to answer questions and provide the necessary support.

HHC has tested more than 1 million New Yorkers for the Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) that causes AIDS since 2005, when its public health centers and hospitals started offering HIV screening as a routine part of medical care for patients age 13 to 64. As the largest provider of HIV primary care in New York City, HHC serves about 40% of patients in care. More New Yorkers than ever are getting tested for HIV at an HHC healthcare center and when they test positive, they are quickly linked to life-saving care and treatment.

Don’t delay. Get tested for HIV today. Find an HHC healthcare center near you.
