The Center Staff Presents at CUNY Dispute Resolution Consortium's
Monthly Meeting
On August 4, 2005, the staff of the New York City Center for Mediation
Services presented at the CUNY Dispute Resolution Consortium's (DRC)
monthly breakfast meeting. The CUNY DRC is a university-based academic
center that serves as a comprehensive coordinating mechanism to
advance research and innovative program development throughout the
City University and the New York City metropolitan area. During
the presentation, Chief Judge Roberto Velez highlighted the Center’s
development, its effectiveness, and its value to the City. The Mediation
Center’s staff provided an update on its recent accomplishments,
including increasing case referrals; hiring a center director; creating
a law school clinic; and providing conflict management training
to three City agencies. Chief Judge Velez acknowledged the support
of CUNY DRC Director Maria Volpe in establishing the Center, along
with Judge Ray Kramer, Center Director Justo Sanchez, and Law Clerk
David Leon.
Attendees showed great interest, engaging the Center’s staff
in a discussion following the presentation.
