JOB
DESCRIPTION
With latitude
for independent initiative and judgment, the Regional WMD Planner will take the
lead on key preparedness initiatives to accomplish the following:
- Scope and execute WMD response and
recovery plans for New York City and the region
- Identify, convene and maintain
ongoing and robust conversations with government, non-profit, public and
private agency planning teams and stakeholder
groups
- Establish and develop technical
procedures, benchmark existing plans and produce final reports, plans and
other deliverables
- Manage a grant budget and provide
detailed status reports to local, state, regional and federal
agencies
The selected
candidate will be responsible to staff the City's Emergency Operations Center
(EOC) during emergency activations and to work during non-business hours during
emergencies. The selected candidate will also participate in drills and
exercises and fulfill other duties as assigned by the Deputy Commissioner for
Planning and Preparedness.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
- A master’s degree from an
accredited college in emergency management, public administration, urban
planning, engineering, economics, political science, the physical sciences or
related field and one year
satisfactory full-time professional experience in one or a combination of the
following: emergency management, fire or police services public safety, public
health, public administration, urban planning, engineering, or another
specialized area to which the appointment is to be made; or
A baccalaureate
degree from an accredited college and two years of satisfactory full-time paid
professional experience in the areas listed in “1” above
NYC residency is
required within 90 days of hire.

- Superior written and oral communications skills
- Experience managing multiple projects in a high pressure work
environment

Experience in one or more of the
following areas: project management; environmental, occupational health and
safety; chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear incident planning and
response; all-hazards emergencies such as building collapses, major fires,
steam pipe explosions and chemical spills
