NYC Brownfield Partnership

NYC Partnership of Brownfield Practitioners

The NYC Brownfield Partnership is a voluntary association of brownfield stakeholders consisting principally of environmental consulting firms, environmental law firms, environmental remediation contracting firms, for-profit and not-for-profit brownfield development firms and community-based organizations (member organizations) that are engaged on brownfield projects in New York City communities. The NYC Brownfield Partnership (Partnership) was initiated to provide services and benefits to New York City communities and residents and promote sustainable brownfield management in New York City. The NYC Brownfield Partnership is not an agency of the City of New York.

The mission of the Partnership is:

  • " to promote better citizen understanding of investigation and remediation work plans and reports;
  • " to promote the training and development of the next generation of environmental professionals and leaders from New York City high schools, colleges, and universities;
  • " to promote the training of unskilled workers from targeted New York City communities to develop locally derived labor to serve the brownfield cleanup industry;
  • " to promote the creation and development of small businesses in New York City communities that serve the brownfield industry;
  • " to promote the broader purpose of brownfield management through public awareness and education.

By joining the Partnership, a member organization agrees to make a substantial effort to provide services and/or benefits to New York City communities on an annual basis. Currently, there are six primary community benefit programs and an annual brownfield award program that are administered by the Partnership. These programs include:

  • Pro-Bono Community Counseling Program
  • Green Jobs Training Program
  • Brownfield Entrepreneurship Program
  • Brownfield Internship Program
  • Brownfield Scholarship Program
  • Community Training & Education Program

In addition to support of these programs, services or benefits rendered by member organizations may include guidance on creation of new programs or improvement of the delivery of existing ones.

The NYC Brownfield Partnership is not an agency of the City of New York. The decisions of the Partnership are made by its board of directors and not by the City of New York. Member organizations of the Partnership have no advantage in obtaining City contracts. While the City supports brownfield redevelopment and the role of the Partnership in proving benefits to communities as part of the cleanup of brownfields, the City is not responsible for the advice a member organization may give or an action it may take. Members organizations provide direct community counseling under the Partnership pro-bono counseling program, independent from the City.
