| Department of Backlog: Increasing Complaints and Delayed Responses at the Queens Building Department |
The Department of Buildings (DOB) was created to ensure the safe and lawful use of buildings and properties. Yet an investigation by the Committee on Oversight and Investigations shows DOB struggling to keep up with the many complaints it receives and slow to address its growing backlog, especially in Queens. DOB’s failure to address complaints diminishes quality of life. The Council therefore recommends immediate action to eliminate the backlog and legislation to make DOB more responsive.
