Angie Kamath to Lead Workforce Development

August 2008 - Angie Kamath has been appointed Deputy Commissioner for Workforce Development. In this role, Kamath will build employment opportunities for New Yorkers in the City's fastest-growing sectors while meeting the hiring and training needs of New York City businesses.

"I am excited to lead and build upon a workforce system that has already achieved record results in matching businesses and jobseekers," said Kamath. "Over the coming year I look forward to launching new and innovative programs to promote job retention and advance the City's working poor."

Prior to her appointment, Kamath served as Assistant Commissioner for Program Design and Development with the Department of Small Business Services, where she led the agency's initiatives funded by the Mayor's Center for Economic Opportunity to reduce poverty and help New Yorkers achieve self-sufficiency. She also served as Executive Director of StreetWise Partners, a job training and mentoring organization. Kamath holds a Masters in Public Policy degree from Harvard University and a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management and Applied Economics from Cornell University.

Scott Zucker led the City's workforce development efforts starting in 2006 and was a key member of the leadership team that turned around the City's adult and dislocated worker programs over the last four years. During his tenure, Scott expanded the Workforce1 Career Center System, organized the City's seven Workforce1 Career Centers to operate as a unified system, tightened the linkage between employment preparation and business hiring needs, developed new management information systems that enabled improved management, and dramatically improved job placement performance.
