June 6, 2007 – From September 14-18, New York City will play host to the International Downtown Association's 53rd Annual Conference and World Congress. More than 1,000 professionals who work in downtown development across the nation and around the world – from mayors to architects to city planners – will converge at the Marriott Marquis in Times Square to consider how to improve downtown districts.

The New York City host committee – comprised of leaders from New York City's Business Improvement Districts and the Department of Small Business Services - will organize a third of the conference's sessions, sharing successful models developed by the City across a range of disciplines, including the revitalization of Times Square and Union Square, engaging universities in urban settings, creating sustainable architecture and infrastructure and workforce development.

"As the home of the nation's largest, most comprehensive network of Business Improvement Districts, New York City is a fitting host for this Conference," said Rob Walsh, Commissioner of the New York City Department of Small Business Services. "We look forward to sharing the successes we have had in revitalizing business corridors here in New York City with other guests, and learning from the ideas and accomplishments of other cities."
