Welcome to the official Web site of the New York City Mayor's Office of Contract Services. We work closely with City agencies, as well as vendors and other members of the public, to oversee the City's procurement policy and process.
An enormous part of the City's work is performed through contracts with private sector firms and not-for-profit groups. The value of these contracts exceeds $11 billion annually. At the direction of Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg, we have worked to streamline the contracting process. We have implemented changes designed to expedite smaller purchases, and to ensure that more of the City's vibrant small businesses have a full and fair opportunity to win contracts. We are also beginning to apply technology in ways that will help City agencies and vendors move contracts through the process more swiftly and improve contract management.
Since its inception the mission of this office has been to assist agencies in complying with procurement procedures and achieving their programmatic mission, while also assisting them in improving their contract management practices and providing technical assistance, particularly in the area of business integrity assessment. We also decide appeals when vendors are found to lack the necessary fiscal responsibility for contract awards. We also maintain a comprehensive contract information system known as VENDEX, support continued outreach to the vendor community, and maintain the Public Access Center. The Center is available to the general public and provides visitors to our office access to public contract information.
With the encouragement and support of Mayor Bloomberg, the Mayor's Office of Contract Services will continue to explore new ways to reform the City's business practices. We will focus on increasing efficiency and competition, obtaining value and savings, maintaining integrity, improving technological support, and making New York City a first-choice business partner of the vendor community.
On behalf of Mayor Bloomberg, I invite you to explore the Mayor's Office of Contract Services' Web site.
