Turning the Tide on Homelessness in New York City

Today, we face a new kind of homelessness that is driven by years of wages not keeping up with the cost of housing in our city. It’s caused pain for millions and deep pain for thousands of people who have become homeless. You may see them in the line at the grocery store, or in the bank, or at work. And you may never know that at night they return to a shelter instead of a home. Today, a majority of shelter residents are families. They are the invisible majority of our homeless crisis. For decades, the City has not done enough both these New Yorkers and the communities where they are sheltered.

Learn more about our 2017 report and operational Turning the Tide plan that outlines how we are working to turn the tide on this crisis, neighborhood by neighborhood.
