Construction Safety Week Kicks Off
From May 1st through May 7th, DOB is kicking off a safety awareness campaign as part of Construction Safety Week. DOB representatives will be visiting construction sites across the City all this week, talking to workers and handing out information about safe construction practices. During Construction Safety Week, DOB will be highlighting the message that "Experience is Not Enough" to prevent an accident on the work site.

The DOB Build Safe│Live Safe Conference is scheduled for this Wednesday, May 3rd at the New York Marriott Downtown in Lower Manhattan. Part of Construction Safety Week, the conference will have presentations on a variety of topics dealing with the construction industry. Tickets for this year's conference have sold out, but all of the presentations will be made available on our website after the event.

OneNYC 2017 Progress Report Released

Solar Power Energy Projects On The Rise
New York City now produces a combined 105 megawatts of electricity from solar power installations, well on the way to the City's goals of producing 1 gigawatt of solar capacity by 2030 and reducing the City's greenhouse gas emissions 80 percent by 2050. Deadline Approaching to Register Under City's Loft Law
There is still time to submit your loft apartment registration and coverage application to the NYC Loft Board. The deadline to apply for coverage under the loft law is June 15, 2017, and you must file your application with the Loft Board by this date. Disciplinary Cases
The Department brought criminal court charges against the corporate owners of a building that failed to file façade inspection reports for three successive cycles. As a result of the actions taken by the Department, the building owners complied and submitted the required report.
A Master Rigger failed to properly carry out his job functions in a safe manner, which resulted in injuries to fellow workers. The Department suspended the Master Rigger’s license as a result.

Amendment of Cranes and Derricks Rules
1 RCNY 3319-01 (effective 05.24.17) The amendments completely revises the provisions in subdivision (g) related to the certificate of on-site inspections, establishes a new requirement for a crane or derrick log to be maintained at the job site, adds a requirement for an assembly / disassembly director to be designated and charged with ensuring compliance with the approved assembly / disassembly plan, and mandates that the wind be measured via an anemometer.
Rule For Lift Directors
1 RCNY 3319-02 (effective 05.24.17) This rule mandates that a lift director be present at a construction site while a crane or derrick is performing certain tasks, to verify compliance with New York City regulations and to ensure weather conditions are monitored and the crane or derrick properly secured.
Rule For Sign Hangers
1 RCNY 105-04 (effective 4/7/17) This rule allows licensed sign hangers (Master Sign Hangers and Special Sign Hangers) to file applications to hoist, lower, hang, or attach certain wall-mounted, accessory signs and related structural elements (e.g. frames or columns) that comply with specified size and location requirements.
