DOB Wraps Up First Build Safe | Live Safe Digital Conference

Thank you to all those who participated in our first digital conference. Build Safe | Live Safe Digital 2020 was an overwhelming success. Participants were able to benefit from the knowledge of our DOB experts in over 20 live webinars. Throughout the past week, we heard about proper construction safeguards, developments in sustainable buildings laws, changes to the NYCECC and other important industry topics. We looked back over our city's safety record for the last year with Buildings Commissioner Melanie La Rocca and examined case studies of construction incidents. It was a jam-packed week highlighted by keynote presentations from the winners of our two innovation challenges (see below).

In total, we offered more than 17 hours of free continuing education instruction in Health, Safety, and Welfare. If you weren't able to make the live webinars, we have good news: Our presentations will soon be available to view on-demand. We will let you know when they are posted. Hope to see you at our next build safe | live safe event!

Winners of DOB Innovation Challenges Announced...

This week we announced the winners of our Carbon Neutrality and Hack the Building Code Innovation Challenges which were launched earlier this year in partnership with the Urban Tech Hub @ Company. We received over 80 amazing entries for the both challenges combined. The winning proposals were on display this week as part of our keynote presentations during Build Safe | Live Safe Digital 2020, showcasing the important contributions the industry has to offer in building a safer and more sustainable city.

For each innovation challenge, we put out an open call to the design, construction, and technology industries, inviting the public to submit their ideas. For our Carbon Neutrality challenge we solicited ideas on ways to increase building sustainability. The winners of that competition and their ideas can be found here. Our Hack the Building Code innovation challenge sought ideas on ways to modernize and improve our city's building code. Check out the list of winners for that competition and their proposals.

Time's Running Out to Complete the 2020 Census

There's still time left to do something simple that will impact New York City for years to come. The 2020 Census is ending soon and it is critical that all New Yorkers are counted. Our City stands to lose billions of dollars in federal aid every single year for schools, hospitals, health clinics, affordable housing, transportation, and more, as well as our representation in Congress and in Albany if we do not achieve a complete count.

The census asks just 10 simple questions that can be answered in just a few minutes online at my2020census.gov, or by calling 844-330-2020. The census is 100% confidential, safe, and easy.

Don't delay, take a few minutes to secure New York City’s future by visiting my2020census.gov today!
