Dear New Yorker,
The holiday season has begun, and nobody celebrates it quite like New York City!
Mayor Adams announced the transformation of Fifth Avenue from 48th Street to 57th Street into an Open Street for three Sundays in December. This will ease crowding, facilitate access to the iconic holiday window displays and create a more pleasant holiday environment for New Yorkers and visitors, which enhancing public safety for all.
We encourage New Yorkers to shop small and support local businesses! For every $3 spent at a local small business, $2 stays in the community. New York City is home to the largest number of independent bookstores in the country! Support your local bookstores this holiday season and beyond.
On December 1st, New York City reflected on World AIDS Day with both a heavy heart for the lives lost and hope for the future from the progress made. United, New Yorkers gathered in remembrance to honor those lost to the epidemic while supporting those living with HIV/AIDS.

Highlights From the City Hall Press Office: |
Plan Announced to Address Needs for New Yorkers with Untreated Mental Illness: Mayor Adams announced a new pathway forward to address the ongoing crisis of individuals experiencing severe mental illnesses left untreated and unsheltered in New York City’s streets and subways. The Mayor detailed a compassionate new vision to tackle this crisis, beginning with a directive being issued immediately to city agencies and contractors involved in evaluating and providing care to individuals in psychiatric crisis so that more people in need of help receive it.
City Buildings Lit Red for World AIDS Day: Both City Hall and the David N. Dinkins Manhattan Municipal Building were lit red in recognition of World AIDS Day. “New York City stands united in the fight against HIV and AIDS, and today we show our support for those living with HIV/AIDS and honor those we’ve lost to this epidemic,” said Mayor Adams.
Lifestyle Medicine Foundational Training Offered to Every NYC Health Care Practitioner: Mayor Adams and the American College of Lifestyle Medicine (ACLM) announced a new partnership — as a result of a massive $44 million investment by ACLM — to provide every New York City health care practitioner with free introductory training in nutrition and lifestyle medicine, enabling practitioners to integrate evidence-based content into their clinical practice to treat certain health conditions. Lifestyle medicine is a medical specialty that uses evidence-based, therapeutic lifestyle interventions as a primary modality to treat chronic conditions, including cardiovascular disease, hypertension, and Type 2 diabetes. Applying the six pillars of lifestyle medicine — a healthful plant-predominant eating pattern, physical activity, restorative sleep, stress management, avoidance of risky substances, and positive social connections — also provides effective prevention for many common chronic conditions.
