Dear fellow New Yorker,
March 14th marked three years since the first recorded death of a New Yorker from COVID-19. Mayor Adams cited the devastating impact the pandemic inflicted on our city with more than 3.2 million cases, 211,000 hospitalizations, and 45,000 confirmed and probable deaths since March 2020. New Yorkers responded by masking and practicing social distancing, as well as getting vaccinated in record numbers as part of the largest vaccination campaign in the city's history. Approximately 99 percent of adult New Yorkers have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine already. We commend the courage and devotion of our essential workers, frontline health care workers, and all those who stepped in to fill the needs of their fellow-New Yorkers from food assistance to social support.
Erin Go Bragh! Mayor Adams hosted a St. Patrick’s Day breakfast at Gracie Mansion and marched in the parade with members of the New York City Fire Department. Wishing the Irish community a happy St. Patrick’s Day celebration!

Highlights From the City Hall Press Office: |
Groundbreaking on Project to Protect Gowanus Canal from Sewage Overflow: Mayor Adams broke ground on the first of two underground storage tanks that will have the combined capacity to prevent up to 12 million gallons of sewer overflow during rainstorms, stopping it from polluting the Gowanus Canal. This groundbreaking marks an important alignment among city leadership and the EPA to get these projects on track after Gowanus was categorized as a Superfund site in 2010. These two major infrastructure projects will make an estimated $1.6 billion investment in Brooklyn’s waterways and public spaces, significantly improve the health of the canal, and create 3.6 acres of new public waterfront open space and amenities for the Gowanus community.
Mayor Released Statement Follow Signature Bank and Silicon Valley Bank Closures: Mayor Adams and Governor Hochul convened a meeting with representatives from the city’s technology and venture community, and many small businesses, to address their concerns after the closure of Signature Bank on Sunday evening and Silicon Valley Bank. “While we are still assessing the impact from these two closures, we will do everything in our power to protect New York’s workers, its small businesses, taxpayers, and our economy at large,” said the Mayor.
Mayor Toured Offices Being Converted to Homes: Mayor Adams toured 160 Water Street, an office building being converted to housing in Lower Manhattan, to highlight the need for investments and policy changes in the Fiscal Year 2024 state budget that would help create and preserve more affordable housing in the five boroughs. Mayor Adams highlighted several key programs under consideration in Albany, including an extension of and replacement for the 421-a affordable housing incentive program; rental assistance funding for New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) residents; and a pathway to legalize illegal and unsafe basements and cellar apartments.
