Dear fellow New Yorker,
While all parades in New York are colorful, no parade is as colorful as the parade held in celebration of the Hindu Holi holiday. This weekend, Mayor Adams attended the Phagwah Parade in Richmond Hill, Queens. Wishing all Hindu New Yorkers a happy Holi!
Last week, Mayor Adams hosted New York’s Bangladeshi community for the first time at Gracie Mansion in celebration of Bangladeshi Heritage Month. New York takes immense pride in being home to the largest Bangladeshi community in America.
March 21st marked the beginning of Ramadan, the holiest month for Muslims. It is a month of prayer, self-reflection, and fasting. During Ramadan, Muslims abstain from eating or drinking from sunrise until sunset. CAU joined Mayor Adams and communities from across Brooklyn to Break Matzoh and Build Bonds while honoring Ramadan, Passover, and Easter together. Ramadan Mubarak to all Muslim New Yorkers!

All the best, Fred Kreizman

Highlights From the City Hall Press Office: |
$55 Million in Funding Announced for Pools in Roy Wilkins Park: Mayor Adams announced $55 million in additional funding for the creation of a brand new indoor pool and repairs to the existing indoor pool in Roy Wilkins Park in St. Albans, Queens. This investment builds on $92 million previously announced in December 2021 to build a brand new recreation center in the park. The planned pool will be competition sized and allow the city to offer more New Yorkers swimming classes and programming.
Harlem River Greenway to be Expanded to the Bronx: Mayor Adams announced the expansion of the Harlem River Greenway to the Bronx. The project represents a major new front in the administration’s nation-leading effort to reconnect communities divided by highways, focusing on the Major Deegan Expressway, which has cut off Bronxites’ access to the Harlem River waterfront since the 1930s. Beginning on April 18, 2023, the Adams administration will conduct public engagement and craft a plan for the new greenway. The route will span seven miles, connecting Randall’s Island at the southern tip of the Bronx to Van Cortlandt Park in the north, with continuous cycling and walking, including a critical north-south bike commuting corridor.
‘Big Apple Connect’ to Deliver Free Internet, TV to 200 NYCHA Developments: Mayor Adams announced the expansion of ‘Big Apple Connect’ — the nation’s largest municipal broadband program — by nearly 50 percent, providing free internet and basic cable television service to a total of 202 New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) developments, and reaching approximately 300,000 New Yorkers. OTI has now expanded ‘Big Apple Connect’ ahead of schedule after announced at the full launch last fall when Mayor Adams promised to install ‘Big Apple Connect’ in more than 200 NYCHA developments by the end of 2023.
