Dear fellow New Yorker,
May is Asian-American Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month. To celebrate the diverse cultures and traditions of the AAPI community, I joined Mayor Adams and other dignitaries in the third annual AAPI Cultural Heritage Parade.
This weekend, the Mayor also marched in the Nepal Day Parade to celebrate and mark the contributions of the Nepalese people to our great City.
Last week, in celebration of National Nurses Week, I was glad to join with other administration officials at Maimonides Medical Center to salute the incredible nurses who embody the spirit of compassion and care in every health care setting.
To mark Mental Health Awareness Month, the Mayor’s Office encouraged everyone to wear green last Thursday, marking Mental Health Action Day. City Hall and other municipal buildings were lit up green to send the message that mental health is a priority for all. As a reminder, you can dial 988 to be connected to free, confidential, mental health support. You can also visit the Mayor's Office of Community Mental Health Services and Support guide.
Finally, this week we will again raise the African Union Flag to celebrate Africa Day and the African Diaspora. New York City has the largest concentration of Africans in the nation. Two weeks ago, Mayor Adams held the first NYC African Town hall in the Bronx. We appreciate all the African community leaders and business owners who came out to share their concerns with the Mayor, administration members, and city agencies.

Voting has started for The People’s Money, NYC’s citywide participatory budgeting (PB) process! From May 1st through June 12th, New Yorkers age 11 and up, regardless of immigration status, can decide how to spend $3.5M of city funds on projects in their community.
Last year, in the first People’s Money process, New Yorkers voted to fund 46 expense projects for a total of $5M. The projects address a wide range of community needs, including mental health, food safety, youth programming, skills building and arts. To learn more about the process, visit participate.nyc.gov.
