Dear New Yorker,
Viva Italia! October is Italian-American Heritage and Culture Month. This week, Mayor Adams marched in the Columbus Day Parade and hosted an Italian Heritage Month celebration at Gracie Mansion. New York City’s Italian community has contributed so much to the fabric of our great city.
On Indigenous Peoples’ Day, we paused to reflect on the injustices visited against the Indigenous people upon whose ancestral land we live.
Mayor Adams attended Columbia University’s Indigenous Peoples’ Day event and recommittedto an honest teaching of history, in order to mend the pain of the past and to build an inclusive and just future.
Both City Hall and the David N. Dinkins Manhattan Municipal Building were lit pink this past week in recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Screening early and often can save lives. We encourage New Yorkers to speak with their health care providers to make sure they are up to date on screenings.

All the best, Fred Kreizman

Highlights From the City Hall Press Office: |
Families Invited to Apply for Affordable Child Care: The child care voucher waitlist has been cleared and families of all 36,000 children on the waitlist are invited to apply for affordable and highly-subsidized child care. Access to child care is critical for parents to be able to participate in the workforce and for children to receive the developmental, educational, and social benefits they need to thrive. Beginning next week, ACS will also begin accepting child care voucher applications from low-income families across New York City. Families can apply for child care vouchers by visiting the ACS website.
Second Emergency Center to Serve Asylum Seeker Families: Mayor Adams announced the city will open a Humanitarian Emergency Response and Relief Center that will serve asylum seeker families with children arriving in New York City. This humanitarian relief center will be located at The Row hotel in midtown Manhattan and will initially serve 200 families, with the ability to scale to serve additional families in the coming weeks. Humanitarian relief centers will become the first touch point for arriving asylum seekers, helping people by immediately offering shelter, food, medical care, case work services, and a range of settlement options.
Ghost Gun Retailer Stopped from Selling Kits to NYC Residents: Mayor Adams announced an agreement with online ghost gun retailer Arm or Ally that stops the company’s illegal selling and
delivering of gun components to New York City residents. These ghost gun components are used to assemble illegal and untraceable firearms and pose a grave risk to New Yorkers. The agreement with Arm or Ally — based in Kansas City, Missouri — is the fourth agreement the city has reached with online ghost gun retailers following a lawsuit filed against five companies in June 2022. |
