The West Indian-American Day Parade is back! Mayor Adams joined the West Indian and Caribbean community to march in the parade on Eastern Parkway. The Caribbean Islands have brought New York City so much joy and beauty. Hope everyone had a peaceful and happy J’Ouvert and West Indian American Day Parade celebration!
To honor Trinidad and Tobago’s 60th Independence Day, Mayor Adams raised the nation’s flag at Bowling Green. We are so grateful to the community for its contributions to our great city.

Back to School 2022-23
On September 8, 2022, we will welcome students back to New York City public schools for the first day of the 2022-23 school year. We are so excited to begin this journey together. Credit Card Companies Called On to Improve Tracking of Gun Sales: Mayor Adams called on American Express, MasterCard and Visa, three of the world’s largest credit card companies, to support a proposal to establish a merchant category code (MCC) for gun and ammunition stores. The creation of a new code would help financial institutions detect and report suspicious activity, such as unusually large purchases of firearms or ammunition, or purchases from multiple stores, that may be used for criminal purposes.
New Concealed Carry Regulations Go Into Effect: Mayor Adams announced that the city is launching a comprehensive outreach plan to educate and inform New Yorkers about new state legislation governing concealed carry regulations across the state. The provisions of the legislation will require concealed carry license applicants to meet revised eligibility requirements and complete a state-regulated firearms training course, as well as defines certain “sensitive locations” where concealed carry licensees are not permitted to carry guns within

Mayor Announced Stormwater Infrastructure Initiatives: Mayor Adams marked the one-year anniversary of Hurricane Ida by announcing a suite of stormwater infrastructure initiatives aimed at making the city more resilient to extreme rainfall in the future. As New Yorkers continue to experience the increasing impacts of climate change, the city is accelerating plans for a multi-layered system of
adaptive infrastructure that will make New York City more resilient to Ida-level rainstorms, and an implementation plan to guide this long-term effort is underway. |
