Family Development Credential (FDC) Program

The application deadline has been extended for both the Family Development Credential (FDC) Program for frontline staff and the Family Development Credential Program for Leaders targeting supervisors, managers and directors. These intensive professional development training opportunities emphasize empowerment and family support as a way of delivering human services, education and health to individuals, youth and families. Classes begin on Friday, February 22 but to be part of the spring 2019 cohort you must submit your online application by January 15. Ladders for Leaders

DYCD’s Ladders for Leaders is a nationally recognized program that offers high school and college students the opportunity to participate in paid professional summer internships with leading corporations, non-profit organizations and government agencies in New York City. Ladders for Leaders gives students a unique opportunity to explore their interests and discover new ones through: pre-employment training; help with résumé and cover letter writing and interviewing skills; essential workplace readiness skills; and business etiquette. Paid summer internships are available in a variety of industries to accommodate student interests. 3V3 Hoops For Kindness

January may be National Mentoring Month, but DYCD and our funded providers mentor young people year-round! On December 28, DYCD Mentoring hosted its annual 3v3 Hoops for Kindness event, with mentees and mentors showcasing their leadership, basketball, civic engagement and sportsmanship skills along with other DYCD mentoring teams at the Williamsburg Community Center in Brooklyn. Smiles of Love

The items collected during the 2018 Smiles of Love Gift Drive were donated to Children of Promise, a DYCD-funded organization that embraces children of incarcerated parents and empowers them to break the cycle of intergenerational involvement in the criminal justice system. Children of Promise offers free afterschool, summer day camp, and therapeutic services. Check out all the photos on our Facebook page.

Doodle 4 Google

Calling all K–12 students: bring your creativity to life in a Doodle of the Google logo, using any medium you choose for the chance to be a Doodle 4 Google winner. The national winner’s artwork will be featured on the Google homepage, and will win a $30,000 scholarship and a $50,000 tech grant for their school.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of NYC

You can help Big Brothers Big Sisters of NYC (BBBS) provide youth with mentors across NYC by becoming a mentor to a child in need today. New York Women in Communications Scholarship

In conjunction with the Student Communications Career Conference on November 10, The New York Women in Communications opened the 2019-20 NYWICI scholarship application. Each year, New York Women in Communications awards 15 to 20 scholarships to graduating high school seniors, and college undergraduate and graduate students who intend to pursue or further a career in communications. TECH 360

TECH360 is a free, 10-week afterschool program for 10th and 11th graders enrolled in New York City high schools. Students enrolled in the program learn the fundamentals of web development. Courses take place at companies in New York City and are taught by technology professionals. Selected students develop a portfolio of technology projects that illustrate an understanding of web development, gain priority eligibility into the Tech Flex Leaders program, and get to participate in professional opportunities at companies in New York City.

Winter Jam

Winter Jam is a free winter sports festival for New Yorkers of all ages! Presented by NYC Parks on Saturday, January 26, from 11:00am until 3:00pm, the Lake Placid, I Love NY, and I Ski NY Winter Jam NYC is the ultimate snow day: a free winter sports festival for New Yorkers. Gore Mountain will blow lots of fresh snow in the heart of Manhattan, so there will be plenty for all to enjoy! Located at the Bandshell Area (enter at 72nd Street) of Central Park.

Urban Fellows Program

Sponsored by the NYC Citywide Administrative Services, the Urban Fellows Program is a highly selective, nine-month fellowship which combines work in Mayoral offices and City agencies with volunteer service opportunities and a seminar series that explores current urban issues impacting public policy. The program is designed to introduce a diverse group of America’s finest college students and graduates to local government and public service.
