Step It Up NYC provides young movement artists the opportunity to leverage their on-stage talents to create social change in their communities. Over 1,000 youth performers participate in the citywide dance competition. For this season, we will galvanize local youth power and intervene in violence inflicted on Black communities by combating and countering acts of injustice. The DYCD Film Festival is the coolest student film event in New York City, and it is back for another virtual season! Open to students in grades 6-12, we are now accepting submissions for the 2021 experience that will bring over 25 youth-produced films to your home this Spring. We are excited to announce that we extended the deadline for our DYCD Broadway & Beyond program! In partnership with the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History's Hamilton Education program and Trinity Church Wall Street, this initiative seeks to empower youth to use their voice through various art mediums, including performance and visual arts to retell some of histories biggest moments. One in two NYC households are eligible to file their taxes for free, but many needlessly spend hundreds of dollars to have their taxes prepared. During these difficult economic times, it is more important than ever that New Yorkers eligible for NYC Free Tax Prep file their taxes for free, claim essential tax credits including the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC), and keep their WHOLE refund. The Department of Consumer and Worker Protection (DCWP) is excited to collaborate with you to ensure that your constituents know they may be eligible for free tax preparation. New Yorkers who earned $68,000 or less in 2020 may qualify for free tax preparation services in several ways – including from home–this tax season. Citizens' Committee for Children's Youth Action members is calling on all New Yorkers ages 14 to 24 to complete a citywide survey of young people to make sure that the next Mayor and City Council understand and prioritize youth voices. We will use the data we collect from this survey to advocate for a youth agenda during the 2021 citywide elections and to create a transition plan for the new administration that centers youth voices.
