NYC Youth Agenda           

The uncertainty of funding, the current health pandemic, and civil unrest makes it even more critical that youth voice and a youth agenda inform future funding priorities, programming, and policies. Last week, we held a youth-led Mayoral Town Hall, which provided #NYCYouth with the opportunity to discuss the issues they want the next NYC Mayor to prioritize! Mayoral Youth Town Hall 

Did you know 29.5% of New Yorkers are under 24? On June 9, the New York Law School hosted the first-ever #VoteUrVoice Mayoral Town Hall, and this event provided NYC Youth the opportunity to discuss issues they want the next Mayor of New York to prioritize. DYCD + HMI PRIDE Month Photo Competition       

Hetrick-Martin Institute, the nation’s oldest and largest non-profit serving LGBTQIA+ youth and their families, in partnership with DYCD, created a new resource guide for human and social service providers to support LGBTQIA+ youth. We want to get this guide in the hands of COBs, youth, and community workers across NYC!

Using the hashtag #DYCDPride, post a photo of your choice along with your reason why PRIDE is still important and a link to the resource guide (https://on.nyc.gov/354Q547) on Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn or Instagram. The #DYCDPride post with the most likes and shares by June 27, will win a #GiftCard worth $100!  

Promesa Treatment Facility       

Promesa Treatment Facility is an alternative to jail for young men ages 14 to 20. The Promesa coordinated approach to recovery offers an array of services to help clients seek recovery and achieve long-lasting results. Promesa offers Mental Health, GED, Trade school, Jobs Assistance, and is available in Spanish and English. Telephone Promesa at (917) 599-1512 , (929) 208-5308, Administrative offices (718) 960-1558. City Clean-Up Corp      

The City Cleanup Corps (NYC CCC) will employ 10,000 New Yorkers for beautification across our city. NYC CCC workers will wipe away graffiti, powerwash sidewalks, create community murals, tend to community gardens, beautify public spaces, and work with community organizations to clean their neighborhoods. The People's Fellows Youth Employment Opportunity

 The NYC Civic Engagement Commission is now recruiting for the 'People's Fellowship,' with an option for youth ages 14-25 to apply for either a 3-month or 10-month program. 3 Month Program
The NYC Civic Engagement Commission (CEC) 3-month People's Fellowship is specific to The People's Bus initiative.
  • 'The People's Bus' is a mobile unit designed to engage residents in a direct, artistic, and sensory celebration of democracy
  • Youth will work with CEC's artist in residence to transform a former Department of Corrections bus to reimagine public space in partnership with New Yorkers
10 Month Program
 A fellowship that immerses young people across New York City in the practices of participatory democracy develops interpersonal leadership skills and applies their knowledge in real-world scenarios. 
  • Fellows will be involved in supporting the Civic Engagement Commission on the design and implementation of various initiatives, including the planning and programming of a five-borough 'People's Festival', participatory budgeting, and voting rights education
  • The Fellows will be recruited from and will be working with the neighborhoods hit hardest by COVID (as identified by the Task Force for Racial Equity and Inclusion) on recovery efforts

Are you a young person living in NYC? Do you have thoughts about how life is in the city? Do you want to share your experiences to help bring about policy change? Then you've opened the right email! We’re the Intergenerational Change Initiative, a group of youth and adult researchers working collectively to use youth voice to bring change in NYC. Last year we launched our Youth Ask Youth Census which got over 400 responses from young people sharing their experiences and hopes for the future in NYC. We got to share this data with major stakeholders such as the Department of Youth and Community Development, the Department of Education, and the Deputy Mayor’s office. This year, you have the chance to share your input AND get a $25 gift card just for participating. Take our 2021 Youth Ask Youth Census at Amplify (amplifyapp.org).
