SYEP Deadline is May 6th
This Friday, May 6th is the deadline to apply for this year’s Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP). SYEP provides New York City youth between 14 and 24 with paid summer experience for six weeks in July and August. In this program, participants are trained on workplace skills and the city's workplace policies. Astoria Cornerstone Hydroponics Garden
HANAC Cornerstone Community Center located in Astoria Houses has been part of the Cornerstone family since 2014. The center services participants ages 5- adult throughout the year and engages in plenty of community events/services, such as food pantries, giveaways, health and wellness workshops, vaccination clinics and job readiness/ placement workshops. This school year Astoria Cornerstone focused on exploring new and exciting ways to learn the importance of science through project base learning. Saturday Night Lights Makes Prime Time
DYCD staff was recently featured on Amigos de Unicision to talk about Saturday Night Lights (SNL). SNL is a summer program that provides access to free youth sports programming on Saturday nights. To find an SNL site near you visit the official SNL website site.

Summer Rising
Summer Rising, New York City’s free summer learning program for students in grades K–8, is now open for registration!
Available citywide, Summer Rising provides City students with full day, in-person learning experiences that mix academics, the arts, and outdoor activities all season long! Organized and run by City school principals and trusted community-based organizations, Summer Rising allows students to boost their outcomes in the classroom while participating in fun activities, including field trips to local parks, zoos, and other outdoor venues. Paid Summer Writing Internship
Do you know a teen who loves to write? Who wants to be published? Tell them about the Youth Communication Summer Internship! For six weeks, a group of 12 young people will participate in writing lessons, discussions, and group activities. They will explore the personal and sociopolitical factors that influence their idea of “home.” Workshop participants will write stories to help other young people make sense of non-traditional definitions of home or take agency in defining what they think home should look like.
