The Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP) is the nation’s largest youth employment program, connecting NYC youth between the ages of 14 and 24 with career exploration opportunities and paid work experience each summer. Participants have the opportunity to explore their interests and career pathways, develop workplace skills and engage in learning experiences that help in developing their social, civic, and leadership skills.  NYC young adults 22 through 24 need to meet additional program guidelines to learn more about these requirements; visit the official SYEP website.

What does Community Safety MEAN to you? Is it a decrease in gun violence, well-lit sidewalks at night, positive and respectful relationships between communities of color and the NYPD, or the creation of legislation on Police Reform? What does Community Safety LOOK like to you? Is it children playing in the park without fear, neighbors looking out for each other, or youth help seniors to cross the street?  How does Community Safety FEEL? Is it going to school without feeling targeted or walking down the street without feeling nervous that you’re going to be cat-called or assaulted?    

Everyone has a different perspective and needs when it comes to safety. Join us as we hear from young people that are actively changing the narrative about Community Safety in their schools and communities, putting UNITY back in COMMUNITY, and working to create safe and brave spaces for all.

April 23rd is the deadline for this year's DYCD Film Festival. As you know, the DYCD Film Festival is the most remarkable student film event in New York City. Open to students in grades 6-12, we are now accepting submissions for the 2021 experience that will bring over 25 youth-produced films to your home this Spring. The initiative offers a remarkable journey designed to promote cinema's future and further advance our mission of accessibility – making student films and conversations available at times when hosting large gatherings in person is not possible.

 “Pathways to Wellbeing” is a partnership between ThriveNYC, Penguin Publishing Group, and the New York City Department of Youth and Community Development. This partnership provides new mental health libraries featuring books written by authors of color that explore mental health, at 10 Cornerstone Community Centers in NYCHA developments and Mental health trainings for all Cornerstone staff. Year Up is a one-year career development training program for young adults between the ages of 17-26 that provides: 

Their six-month internship is about gaining access, getting your foot in the door, and making connections that count. You’ll receive valuable, hands-on experience working at a major company as you further develop the technical skills you’ve learned.  

The Met High School Internship Program offers paid opportunities for students who either reside in or attend a high school or home school in New York, New Jersey, or Connecticut. Applicants for the summer internship program must be rising juniors or rising seniors on the application deadline date. The program allows students to connect with arts, museums, and creative professionals as they develop professional skills, network, and gain work experience. Upon completion of the program, high school interns are paid a stipend that is commensurate with New York State minimum wage law.  

So We Can Thrive: A Youth Survivorship Roundtable, is an opportunity for youth survivors of color to come together to activate themselves around a common question “what will it take to live most authentically/ in our truths, heal, and thrive in the face of rape culture?”
