Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP)
The 2019 Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP) applications are available NOW! SYEP provides New York City youth with paid summer experiences for up to six weeks in July and August. This year we've made some changes to the program: teens 14 - 15 take part in project-based activities that help them explore different careers while young adults aged 16 - 24 can work in a variety of industries throughout the City. Green Girls Summer Institute
This innovative program inspires early adolescent girls to excel as environmental scientists and stewards of New York City’s precious natural resources. They take middle school students on outdoor adventures in parks and along waterways after school and during the summer. Whether bird-watching, canoeing, conducting science projects or doing service, Green Girls develop a new understanding of natural ecosystems for girls, discover how they can create positive change within their environment, and learn about future careers in the sciences.
Discovery Guide Volunteer Program
Discovery Guide positions at the Bronx Zoo are open to youth aged 14 to 24. As a Bronx Zoo Discovery Guide, you will join the Education Department in its mission to inspire a diverse and inclusive movement of conservation advocates. You may do this by engaging zoo visitors in fun, educational activities throughout the park; by assisting Conservation Educators in programs like summer camp; or by advocating for wildlife and the environment through a WCS campaign. There are many exciting opportunities for you to take advantage of, and opportunities to grow within the program throughout the seasons. Free Tennis Classes
The New York Junior Tennis & Learning (NYJTL) is offering FREE classes for youth ages 5-18. Receive free tennis instruction from trained coaches in schools and public parks in all 51 New York City council districts year-round. Urban Word NYC
First Draft (#UWFirstDraft) is a free, non-censored, open mic series. It is open to all teen poets, musicians, MCs, urban word alumni and mentors. Summer Youth Police Academy
The NYPD Summer Youth Police Academy is one of several innovative, effective programs that the Department provides for young people in New York City. The program gives young individuals between the ages of 10 and 15 the opportunity to train with police officers during the summer, leading to positive relationships between the Police Department and the City’s youth.
