Mayor de Blasio Expands Free 'Movies Under the Stars' Outdoor Film Series

New York City’s outdoor film screening series Movies Under the Stars will bring 300 films to parks in all five boroughs this summer, including many parks that have never hosted movie nights before. Mayor Bill de Blasio, Media and Entertainment Commissioner Julie Menin and Parks Commissioner Mitchell Silver announced the major expansion of this program, which provides New Yorkers with access to free, family-friendly cultural opportunities. Money Monster uses MOME’s New Model to Help Local Businesses

In a Crain’s New York Business article, Mayor’s Office of Media and Entertainment Commissioner Julie Menin discusses the Agency’s new strategies to encourage film productions to support the local economy. The new film Money Monster, directed by Jodie Foster, is among the first to use this new model, which creates a direct contribution to the filming area’s businesses and drives traffic to shops in neighborhoods where film production takes place. MOME releases PSAs on the Small Businesses Benefiting from Filming

The Mayor’s Office of Media and Entertainment recently launched a campaign of PSAs featuring small businesses that benefit from film and television production here in New York City. The 30-second videos, which will be released entirely in early June, feature businesses in each of the five boroughs, including: Avid Waste Systems (Bronx), Bridge Cleaners & Tailors (Brooklyn Navy Yard), Café Grumpy (multiple locations in Manhattan and Brooklyn), Jamali Floral and Garden Supplies (Chelsea), LeNoble Lumber (Long Island City) and Melba’s Restaurant & Catering (Morningside Heights/West Harlem).Read More in Crain's New York Business

Education Opportunity for Media & Entertainment Businesses: Strategic Steps for Growth

Strategic Steps for Growth (SS4G) is an eight-month executive business education program designed for media, entertainment and technology firms that want to grow their businesses. Since 2012, the SS4G Media & Entertainment Industry Program has provided firms with an opportunity to gain knowledge and experience through an award-winning curriculum, peer-mentoring sessions, advice from business leaders and experts, and networking opportunities with media professionals.
