Film & TV Study Reveals the Industry’s Vital Role in NYC’s Economy
The latest NYC Film and Television Industry Economic Impact Study details the unprecedented impact and leading role that the film and television industry has had on New York City’s economy. In 2019, the industry supported 185,000 jobs, $18.1 billion in wages, and $81.6 billion in overall economic output. The groundbreaking report arrives as the City begins to recover from the pandemic, which highlighted just how important this industry is to the city's identity, the livelihood of many New Yorkers, and the local economy. As we continue to rebuild our creative economy, we look forward to working alongside public policymakers, industry stakeholders and local communities in order to ensure continued, sustainable economic growth and job opportunities for New Yorkers in the industry. Applications Open for NYC Women’s Fund for Media, Music & Theatre
The Mayor's Office of Media and Entertainment (MOME) and New York Foundation for the Arts (NYFA) are now accepting applications for the third round of grants as part of the NYC Women's Fund for Media, Music and Theatre. Qualified applicants can apply for finishing grants through November 1, 2021. Projects are eligible for finishing funds in: the feature, short, and webseries categories for fiction and documentary film; the classical, experimental, jazz, new music and general categories for music; and theatre production. Applications, eligibility requirements and details about upcoming information sessions are available at nyfa.org/NYCWomensFund. You can use hashtag #NYCWomensFund to participate in the conversation.

Movies Under the Stars Screenings in Parks Across NYC through Late September
MOME and NYC Parks are excited to announce the return of “Movies Under the Stars,” an annual series of free film screenings taking place in parks across the five boroughs. Throughout the summer months, New Yorkers can enjoy the warm weather, NYC parks, and free outdoor screenings of short films and blockbusters including In the Heights, Mulan, Sister Act, Wizard of Oz, Soul, Jaws and more! Click here for the entire “Movies Under the Stars” lineup. “Movies Under the Stars” events have chairs reserved for seniors and people with disabilities, so that everyone can enjoy a good movie. SHOWSTOPPERS! Spectacular Costumes from State & Screen Exhibit in Times Square through September 26

Showstoppers! Spectacular Costumes from Stage & Screen is a new exhibition in the heart of Times Square (234 West 42nd Street), showcasing costumes from Broadway, Film, Television, Opera, Dance and other live entertainment. With more than 20,000 square feet of space, guests will make their way through an immersive maze featuring more than 100 of the entertainment industry’s most beautiful and complex garments, where they will get to see up close the detail and craftsmanship typically only seen far away on stage or screen. Costume makers and experts will be on-site demonstrating their techniques and skills and interacting with guests, and multimedia elements will provide a rare opportunity to get a behind-the-scenes look at the process. MOME will also present a PSA on the Costume Industry Coalition as a part of the exhibition, which runs through September 26, 2021. For more information, visit ShowstoppersNYC.com. Off-Broadway in the Boros Free Performance Series Returns
MOME and small NYC theatre groups are debuting Off Broadway in the Boros Fest, a series of free, pop-up performances that will take place from Wednesday, September 29 through Sunday, October 3 at various public plazas across the five boroughs. Check nyc.gov/OffBwayBoros for updates on the specific performances as they are announced in the coming days.

DREAMING OUT LOUD: Voices of Migrant Workers Anthology Released
The literary and free expression organization PEN America has published DREAMing Out Loud: Voices of Migrant Writers, an anthology tackling themes of isolation, community and the day-to-day lives of the diverse and essential immigrant population from across New York City. The book collects writings from PEN America’s DREAMing Out Loud program, a tuition-free writing workshop for emerging undocumented immigrant writers available at various CUNY in-person and hybrid campuses throughout the five boroughs. With support from MOME, DREAMing Out Loud provides a workshop series for young migrant writers including those who are undocumented DACA recipients, or DREAMers, who came to the United States when they were children.

Bindlestiff Family Cirkus Launched Flatbed Follies, Bringing World-Class Circus Talent to NYC Neighborhoods
A partnership between Bindlestiff Family Cirkus, MOME and the NYC Department of Transportation saw the arrival of free Bindlestiff Family Cirkus Flatbed Follies performances in July and August in neighborhoods that have minimal arts programming and those areas hit hardest by COVID. The performances took place on a series of parade float stages featuring circus artists from all five boroughs. These live events will bring the joy and theatrics of the circus to New Yorkers, while providing local talent the opportunity to be paid to perform for live audiences once again.

International Puppet Fringe Festival Returned to NYC
MOME supported the launch of the second edition of the International Puppet Fringe NYC Festival, which featured a combination of in-person and virtual performances, workshops, exhibits and symposia by emerging and veteran puppeteers and troupes from around the world. To amplify the celebration, the festival partnered with the Museum of the City of New York to create a new exhibition, Puppets of New York, which will remain open to the public until April 2022.
