OFF-BROADWAY IN THE BOROS FEST FREE PERFORMANCE SERIES RUNS THROUGH OCTOBER 3
|
Off-Broadway in the Boros Fest, which debuted on September 29 and runs through October 3, provides free, live theatrical performances in each of the five boroughs. With this series, the Mayor’s Office of Media and Entertainment (MOME) continues its commitment to art accessibility for all New Yorkers, with performances in communities most impacted by the pandemic. Off-Broadway in the Boros Fest features a combination of theatrical elements, including concert versions of current or new Off- and Off-Off-Broadway musicals, musicians playing Jazz and Dominican Rock Fusion, tap dancers, singers, circus performers, Brazilian drummers, and LatinX dance troupes. Each two-hour performance will occur at a designated Department of Transportation Plaza, Open Street or Open Culture location, which leverages an existing NYC program that allows communities to embrace new public spaces and support small businesses. APPLICATIONS REMAIN OPEN FOR NYC WOMEN’S FUND FOR MEDIA, MUSIC AND THEATRE UNTIL NOVEMBER 1
Applications are being accepted for the third round of finishing grants as part of the NYC Women's Fund for Media, Music and Theatre, a program of MOME and the New York Foundation for the Arts (NYFA). Qualified applicants can apply for finishing grants through November 1, 2021. Projects are eligible for finishing funds in: feature, short, and webseries categories for fiction and documentary film; classical, experimental, jazz, new music and general categories for music; and theatre production. ELEVATE: NIGHTLIFE MENTAL HEALTH INITIATIVE OFFERS FREE MENTAL HEALTH SUPPORT FOR THE NIGHTLIFE COMMUNITY
The Office of Nightlife (ONL) at MOME and the Mayor’s Office of Community Mental Health (MOCMH), in partnership with Backline Care, announced the launch of Elevate: Nightlife Mental Health Initiative. Through the new partnership, members of NYC’s nightlife community – including restaurant workers, performers, and hospitality business operators – can join free weekly online support groups to address trauma and stress in the nightlife industry. There are also one-on-one sessions available with case managers, where people can create a personalized mental health plan, and access additional resources and training. ANNUAL BROOKLYN BOOK FESTIVAL RUNS THROUGH OCTOBER 4
The annual Brooklyn Book Festival is running through October 4. Award-winning, bestselling and up-and-coming authors will be available for readings and panel discussions, and families can enjoy readings, workshops, performances, book signings, yoga, and art projects with favorite authors and illustrators. These curated literary events, presented by NYC cultural organizations, include parties, literary trivia, books-to-movies screenings, performances and more in clubs, bookstores and libraries throughout the five boroughs. FILM AT LINCOLN CENTER HOSTS 59TH NEW YORK FILM FESTIVAL, THROUGH OCTOBER 10
The 59th New York Film Festival is currently running at various locations around NYC. Produced by Film at Lincoln Center with support from MOME, the festival features in-person screenings, as well as select outdoor and virtual events. An annual bellwether of the state of cinema that has shaped film culture since 1963, it continues an enduring tradition of introducing audiences to bold and remarkable works from celebrated filmmakers as well as exciting new talent.

PHOTOVILLE FESTIVAL FEATURES 75+ EXHIBITIONS ACROSS THE 5 BOROUGHS, THROUGH DECEMBER 1
Photoville NYC 2021, with Leica Camera as its 10 Year Anniversary Partner, features 75+ exhibitions in outdoor, public spaces throughout NYC’s five boroughs. The festival offers a full slate of free, online programming for photo-lovers of all ages, including panel discussions, interactive workshops, one-on-one safety clinics, and professional development opportunities in partnership with Diversify Photo and Leica Camera. NEW YORK LATINO FILM FESTIVAL RETURNED TO THE BRONX
Commissioner Anne del Castillo kicked off opening night of the New York Latino Film Festival which featured the 20th anniversary screening of “Raising Victor Vargas.” The festival returned to the Bronx to showcase the broad diversity of stories and talent from the Latino filmmaking community. BROADWAY CELEBRATED OFFICIAL REOPENING WITH CURTAIN UP! IN TIMES SQUARE
The Mayor’s Office of Media and Entertainment joined the theatre community and other city and state officials in a three-day extravaganza to celebrate the return of Broadway. The Curtain Up! experience was created by Playbill, in partnership with The Broadway League and the Times Square Alliance, in Times Square from September 17-19. The kickoff event for these outdoor performances was hosted by the talented Norm Lewis and Michael Urie, and included special performances by Broadway legends Brian Stokes Mitchell and Jessica Vosk. .
