You have until April 30 to vote for the one out of the five nominated books that you want the city to read together.
This year's books are:
- A Place for Us by Fatima Farheen Mirza
- Nilda by Nicholasa Mohr
- Just Kids by Patti Smith
- Another Brooklyn by Jacqueline Woodson
- Free Food for Millionaires by Min Jin Lee
To join us on April 23 at the New York Public Library for a free event with all five authors in this year's campaign, please RSVP at: NYPL Author event.
The winning book will be announced on May 3 and the winning author will be in conversation at a free event on May 10 at Symphony Space as part of the PEN World Voices Festival. You can RSVP at PEN World Voices Festival.
Five hundred copies of each of the five nominated books have been donated to all 219 library branches in all five boroughs by the publishers. The city's 55 independent bookstores and eight Barnes & Noble stores have also stocked the five titles.

Patty Carey's Half Life, the four-part comedic series that won #GreenlightHer, the first-ever TV pilot and scriptwriting competition highlighting stories "by, for or about" women, will premiere on May 10 on NYC Life, the city's flagship channel.
Produced in conjunction with Brooklyn College's Feirstein Graduate School of Cinema, Half Life will air every Friday night at 10 p.m. through May 31 with the full episodes streaming on nyc.gov/media. Half Life is the story of a NYC location scout, wife and mother, "Patty," who decides to pursue her dream of screenwriting on the eve of her 39th birthday. The series, starring Larisa Oleynik, Nancy Giles and Finnerty Steeves, shines a light on the challenges of working moms, the film industry, and gender inequity through a fast-talking, comedic lens.
On April 30, a premiere screening and panel discussion of Half Life will take place during the Tribeca Film Festival.
Half Life was chosen a finalist for #GreenlightHer from more than 300 submissions of pilot scripts written by, for or about women, a process that included the selection of two finalists by a distinguished group of industry leaders. The two pilots were produced and aired on NYC Life, followed by a public vote for the winner. For more information, click here.
