Media and Entertainment Commissioner Anne del Castillo announced $500,000 has been allocated for grants to locally-made musical recording projects that are made by, for, or about all who identify as women, at New York Music Month's "Innovation at the Intersection of Music + Tech" conference at NYU Steinhardt on June 4. The music category has been added to what was previously named the 'Made in NY' Women's Film, TV and Theatre Fund.
MOME has launched this grant program in order to promote more gender equity in the music industry. A recent report from the USC Annenberg Inclusion Initiative examining 700 popular songs from the Hot 100 year-end Billboard Charts and Grammy nominations found that from 2012-2018, only 10% of Grammy nominees, 22% of artists, 12% of songwriters and 2% of producers were female.
Applicants can apply here starting July 10, and winners will be announced March 2020. To sign up for updates on the Women's Fund, please visit MOME's website. You can use hashtag #NYCWomensFund to participate in the conversation.
The Women's Fund is a $5 million, three-year program funded by MOME and administered by New York Foundation for the Arts (NYFA). To date, $1.5 million in finishing grants have been awarded to 63 film, TV, theatre, and digital media projects.

Ariel Palitz, Senior Executive Director, Office of Nightlife at the Mayor's Office of Media and Entertainment, gave opening remarks and Michael Musto, writer, TV commentator and author, served as moderator.
