MOME WRAPS UP SUCCESSFUL FIRST YEAR OF "BROADWAY IN THE BOROS"

Kinky Boots

As part of MOME’s 50th Anniversary celebrations, earlier this year Commissioner Julie Menin announced the first-ever “Broadway in the Boros” series, bringing free performances of hit Broadway shows to public parks throughout the five boroughs. The final performance for the 2016 season took place in St. Mary’s Park in the Bronx on August 19, with performers from “Phantom of the Opera” and “STOMP” providing entertainment for over 200 neighbors and residents. “Broadway in the Boros” aims to increase access for New Yorkers from all backgrounds to the magic of Broadway entertainment, which can often be cost-prohibitive for many City residents.

Through MOME Movie Matinees, the agency is providing NYCHA residents with access to the movie theater experience – a classic American pastime – which can often be cost-prohibitive for low-income families.
