What a week, New Yorkers!
I hope you and your loved ones were able to enjoy the breathtaking solar eclipse. In the wake of Friday’s earthquake, I'm pleased to report that our teams have been hard at work inspecting buildings, bridges, and other structures, and they have discovered no major issues. If you see a crack in a structure, please report it to 311. Here’s how your city continued to deliver for you this week: |

Celebrating historic affordable housing wins – I'm proud to say we scored the goal of the decade after the City Council approved our Willets Point Phase 2 development — the largest all-affordable housing project in 40 years. We’re turning a neighborhood known for junkyards into a community with 2,500 affordable apartments, 150,000 square feet of open space, thousands of good-paying jobs, and the city’s first soccer-specific stadium.
Unlocking more job opportunities – We launched a Workforce Development Council to grow public-private partnerships, create family-sustaining careers, and help employers find talented new hires. It’s comprised of 30+ private stakeholders committed to strengthening our workforce development system.
-
Opening nine new public schools – In the 2024-2025 academic year, nine new schools are opening to increase access to accelerated learning opportunities and reduce overcrowding. These schools include a new Bard High School Early College location and a school specialized in preparing high schoolers for film industry careers.

...New Yorkers print 2,500 miles of parking meter receipts every year? That’s about the distance from New York City to Los Angeles or two Empire State Buildings stacked on top of each other! To make an easier and greener system, the Department of Transportation is turning the system fully digital. Drivers will soon only need to enter their license plate numbers at the meter or pay on the ParkNYC app.
