NYC Training Collaborative on Early Intervention workshop about the NYC EI program and how it can help infants and toddlers with disabilities and special needs and their families.  Content includes information on what is EI, what services are available, and what is the parent’s role and how they are involved. Caregivers of children under the age of three receiving Early Intervention services. Transition from School to Adult Life explores the Transition Planning process required under federal law for students with disabilities who are transitioning from school to adult life.  Issues discussed include, the role of the school, parent and student when developing a transition plan; the types of diplomas available to students with disabilities; the safety nets that have been put in place so that students have a better chance of obtaining a high school diploma; and an overview of the array of post-school programs and services available to students who are in the process of transitioning or have already transition from school. Educational Advocacy Intensive Training Series – (a three-week session held on Tuesday & Thursday’s from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.) covers all aspects of the special education system in New York City covering birth to age 26 Parents of children with special needs attending school in NYC. Professionals who work with students with special needs (i.e. parent coordinators, case managers, or any other professional who might benefit from this training)

Freestanding workshops on specific disability related issues (i.e. Autism, Early Intervention, Assistive Technology, Behavior Management, Placement, Pupil Transportation, IDEA & NLCB – Parents Rights, Discipline and Suspension Hearings, etc.) held in schools, on-site and at community-based organizations. Same as above. 30 participants per session Workshops are pre-scheduled but could do training upon request if there were a sufficient number of interested participants. English/Spanish simultaneous translation.
Parent Training (for parents with developmental disabilities) for court mandated families. Workshops provide parenting skills to educate parents on a variety of topics that will assist them in raising their children within a safe environment.  Parents with Developmental Disabilities (whose children are in foster care) 15 participants per session Referrals come from ACS, Foster Care Agencies and Medicaid Service Coordinators. Madres en Marcha – A program for Spanish speaking parents.  Includes educational advocacy.  Facilitated Parent support groups for Spanish speakers and English learners.
