VOLUNTEER SERVICES > HEALTHY OUTLOOK COMPANION PROGRAM AT EHC

The Healthy Outlook Companion Program, sponsored by Elmhurst Hospital Center’s Volunteer Department and Senior Care Center, will help older adults grow older with the highest levels of health and independence possible. The program will train a culturally diverse group of volunteers to provide bedside and mealtime companionship and assist with activities of daily living for patients admitted to B6, the hospital’s newly developed acute care medical unit for people 65 years of age and older. The goal is to reduce the anxiety of hospitalization as well as reduce the feeling of isolation in a hospital environment.

Community residents interested in volunteer service and working with older adults are urged to apply.

Volunteer assignments (days and hours) vary; minimum hours and schedule set on individual basis.

To apply or for more information, contact Jayne Maerker, Director of Volunteers, (718) 334-5175.
