MAIN LOBBY

Queens Hospital Center in conjunction with the New York City Health and Hospitals Corporation officially opened its long-awaited state-of-the-art facility, which had been in the planning stage since 1997. Former Mayor Rudy Giuliani and former Queens Borough President Claire Shulman cut the ceremonial ribbon on December 5, 2001. Together the Mayor and Borough President worked diligently to solidify funding to ensure the development of the new Queens Hospital Center.

The 36,000 square foot, seven-story, 200-bed hospital consolidates all services into a single, more efficient building. The ultramodern structure boasts more than $20 million in the latest medical equipment available anywhere, including a linear accelerator and
3-D planning system for radiation oncology. In contrast to the multi-bed wards of the past, this new facility was designed with private and semi-private rooms, providing privacy and a more personalized environment. In addition, the new hospital will offer primary care clinics for medicine and pediatrics, surgical services, a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, Mental Health Inpatient Unit, comprehensive radiological services, and adult pediatric and psychiatric emergency services. The hospital has also made a significant investment in three Centers of Excellence in Cancer Care, Women's Health Services and Diabetes Management. We have created these centers in response to the dramatic effect diseases such as diabetes and certain cancers have had on the hospital's catchment area.

We are proud to say that our new facility is Queens County's most modern hospital. With our comfortable inpatient units, unique Centers of Excellence, birthing center, and dynamic operating suite, we are poised to meet the challenges of healthcare today.

Our affiliation with the Mount Sinai School of Medicine directs us forward into the 21st century. Within this collaborative wealth of expertise and shared resources we are able to completely serve our patients' needs through the interaction among patient care, education and research.
