    Mental health services

    Mental health services: NYC Well is New York City's free, confidential support, crisis intervention, and information and referral service for anyone seeking help for mental health and/or substance misuse concerns, available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

    Homebase network

    Homebase network: The Department of Social Services' Homebase network of community-based nonprofits has 24 locations across the 5 boroughs where you can walk in to get help. Homebase may be able to assist you with paying your rent [rent arrears] or mortgage, preventing an eviction, mediating a dispute with a landlord, or accessing free legal services for housing purposes. Homebase can also help you with referrals to employment services, if needed.

    Food pantries

    Food pantries: If you are facing food insecurity (hunger), you can search for hundreds of food pantries across the city that can assist you.

    Food Pantries App: This free, easy-to-use reservation system works for many food pantries and the people they serve. Use the app to find pantries and get the food you need, without waiting in line.

    Veterans services

    Veterans services: Service members, veterans, and their families can use our coordinated-care network, VetConnectNYC, which includes legal, financial, and City agencies among other providers. Expert case managers will assess your needs and refer you to the organization or provider best suited to respond to your situation.

    Water bill payment plans: If you are unable to pay your next bill, payment plan options are available to assist you. (Note: payment plans can involve interest.)

  • Heat Assistance icon

    Utility and Heating Bill Assistance

    Utility and Heating Bill Assistance: Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) is a program that assists low income, elderly and vulnerable eligible households with grants to pay for their utility and heating costs. The program provides regular and emergency grants during the heating season to defray energy costs and ensure continued service during the winter months. The HEAP office also administers a cooling program in spring/summer season which provides air conditioning units to individuals who are deemed medically and financially eligible.
