Transcript: Mayor de Blasio Appears Live on FM 93.1 Amor

October 12, 2016

Gloria Broussard: Mr. Bill de Blasio, welcome to 93.1 Amor.

Mayor Bill de Blasio: Thank you so much, Gloria. I’m thrilled to be with you.

Broussard: [Broussard speaks in Spanish]

What would you like? What would you prefer?

Mayor: Let’s do some Inglés this time.

Broussard: Okay, good, good, good.

[Laughter]

Well, first of all, thank you so much for taking – I know you have a very busy agenda. So, thank you so much for taking some time, and sharing with us and our listeners at 93.1 Amor.

Mayor: Well, Gloria, I want to, first of all, thank you because I’m so impressed that you’re doing this wonderful voter registration drive. And I wanted to just tell all of your listeners – and Gloria, you have a lot of listeners – but I wanted to tell them it’s so important to vote. I think everyone knows this presidential election – it has huge consequences for every family, for every person. And the registration deadline in New York City is this Friday, October 14th. So, anyone who is not registered needs to register by Friday to be a part of it. You can go online to voting.nyc  – www.voting.nyc – V-O-T-I-N-G. And you can literally register right there online and automatically become a registered voter. And I know you’re doing a very exciting registration drive –

Broussard: Yes.

Mayor: And I want to thank you and I really think what you’re doing is going to reach a lot of people and that means a lot to me.

Broussard: Oh, no – thank you, of course. As a Latina living in New York – born and raised in Brooklyn – we all have to be there, first of all. We have to be there. And this year is so crucial. You know, I tell my listeners every single day –

[Broussard speaks in Spanish]

And tomorrow, we’re going to be there. We’re going to be – thanks to Make the Road New York at 9210 Roosevelt Avenue in Queens – we’re going to be there from 2:00 pm to 7:00 pm. I’m going to get there around five o’clock, as soon as I get off the air, and we’re going to share with our listeners. And thank you – we have to be very grateful also to Telemundo 47 and Hispanic Federation. And hopefully, maybe you pass by and give us a little surprise visit –

Mayor: Oh, I like that idea. And I want to thank you and Make the Road and the Hispanic Federation, Telemundo, everyone who’s doing this because there’s nothing more important than making sure the voices of the people are heard in the election. You know, the decisions that are going to be made by the next president are literally going to reach every family, and they’re the kinds of things that could have an impact for years and years and years. Nothing could be more important. And everyone who cares – the things I care about, for example, making sure that every family can make ends meet, that they can take care of their children, they can find affordable housing. All of this comes down to, in many ways, who our next president will be. It will have a huge impact. Everyone should be a part of this decision.

And a lot of people don’t realize you have to be registered to vote. They don’t know what the deadlines are. So, I just want everyone to know that you have until Friday. Get in the game. Make an impact.

Broussard: Okay, so tomorrow –

[Broussard speaks in Spanish]

It’s definitely a pleasure, my dear, Alcade Bill de Blasio, having you here, part of 93.1 Amor. And whenever you want to call, please, pick up the phone, tell Jessica to give me a call or you call me direct and we can share with our listeners.

Mayor: Gloria, I really appreciate it and thank you so much for what you’re doing. It means a lot.

Broussard: Thank you and have a great day, and thank you for doing a great job in New York City.

Mayor: Thank you.
