Mayor Adams Announces City Hall, Other City Buildings To Be Lit Green For National Runaway Prevention Month

NEW YORK – New York City Mayor Eric Adams and New York City Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD) Commissioner Keith Howard today announced that City Hall and other municipal buildings will be lit green tonight as part of “Wear Green Day” to bring awareness to National Runaway Prevention Month. National Runaway Prevention Month, which takes place in November, is a public awareness campaign designed to shine a light on the experiences of runaway and homeless youth that too often remain invisible.

“Tonight, we bring awareness to runaway homeless youth throughout the city and country, and the network of providers who serve our young people while ensuring they are seen and heard,” said Mayor Adams. “Our administration continues to work collaboratively across agencies to give young people the support and services they need for more stable, self-sufficient lives. By bringing awareness to National Runaway Prevention Month, we charge all New Yorkers to join us in prioritizing the safety and well-being of young people.”

“DYCD is proud to shine a spotlight on the city’s Drop-in Centers, Crisis Services, Transitional Independent Living, and Street Outreach programs that give young people the basic life essentials to thrive,” said NYC Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD) Commissioner Keith Howard. “Not just during November but throughout the year, DYCD collaborates with our runaway and homeless youth partners, elected officials, and advocates to support the Mayor’s priority of ending youth homelessness once and for all.”

To call attention to runaway prevention and youth homelessness, City Hall and the following municipal buildings will be lit green starting at sundown tonight:

• Bronx County Courthouse: 851 Grand Concourse, Bronx, NY 10451
• David N. Dinkins Manhattan Municipal Building: 1 Centre Street, New York, NY 10007
• Staten Island Borough Hall: 10 Richmond Terrace, Staten Island, NY 10301
